Mr P J Sharma opened the discussion and briefed about many projects Indian Rly’s have in hand for the North East . He had also mentioned about many strategically important projects going to be completed in the next few years.
Mr R N Kalita spoke about some river transportation projects mainly based on rivers Brahmaputra and Barak , which are in advance stage of implementation He had emphasised how problems of heavy silting and change in the flow of rivers would be tackled.
Invited guest , Mr Ranjit Barua , who is a former tea planter , spoke about the problem of India’s Tea Industry, like being unable to recover from rising costs. He had given few very good examples of how the industry should look for value addition of products and give emphasis on branding to tackle such problems .
