Role of NEDFI and its activities in the economic development in North East


Programme on interactive session with Sri B.P. Muktieh-Chairman & Managing Director of N.E. Development and Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFI) and his team on 17th December, 2010 at Hotel Rajmahal, Guwahati

- Managing Director , Assam  Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. Was invited to attend the meeting as guest of honor.

NEDFI has a specific role of both development and financing on behalf of Govt of India in North East comprising of 8 states including Assam.

Apart from members of GMA large number of participants from other industrial association attended the interactive session including some management students. It has a duel role of one side development and other side commercial credit as banker with affordable interest component.

initially  Sri Muktieh gave a brief of the role of NEDFI and the activities they are undertaking in NEDFI. Thereafter his team gave a detail demonstration through projector.  Dr. Balaji also spoke on the problems of development of North East and requested the participant to support and cooperate.  

Interacting , the participate  raised a number  of pertinent  questions e.g. the micro finance  , new industrial policy (NEIPP) monitoring  the development of government schemes , research and  development function  on  raw  material  development  and concentrate on  scheme with priority for  generation of employment .
All questions were answered by NEDFI and at times supported by Dr. Balaji in detail and transparent manner.  Participant felt that since micro finance is becoming important for inclusive growth and some criticism about malfunctioning by micro finance operator which has caused some crisis. NEDFI may move with caution without affecting the progress. Few participant suggested expanding the role of  NEDFI  in  monitoring  development  to influence  the  strategic  policy  of the Government . 

Participant was very happy with the outcome of the meeting and desired that GMA may arrange repeat programme  of such  interactive meet.

Barua-President of GMA presiding over the function thanked Sri Muktieh & Dr. Balaji for accepting GMA’s request and express great happiness for transparency in the meeting from the side of the corporations.
